Everyday life in Europe - Time spent with Dominique

While I was able to visit a few non-tourist areas, most of them did not seem too different from American life.  The time spent in Leysin with Dominique gave me the greatest insight into what everyday life in Europe was like.  Conversations with him about Switzerland is where I first started to feel that Europe really was a different place with a rich culture.  To me it seems like Americans have little or no unique culture, this is very likely because I grew up there, but to me it seemed that Europeans work to maintain a sense of culture.  We do not have a special way to eat things or historically great things to eat.  Even Curling has a long tradition there and Dominique did his best to explain that history to us.

I hope to return to Leysin and get a better sense of everyday life there.  I loved it and want to go back and spend some more time with Dominique.  In fact my favorite town was Aigle, at the bottom of the mountain because it had a small-town feel similar to Logan.  I hope to to go back and drink deeply from the rich culture.
